New York’s WLIW recently unveiled its latest programming gem - Moment of Luxury - which features globe-trotting interior designer Bill Stubbs. If you get a chance to check out the show on your local PBS station, do it. Why? Because (a) it’s a good show and (b) Bill is one of the kindest, most generous people I know. He is also a gifted interior designer.

I met Bill while I was on staff at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. A couple of years ago I had the pleasurable experience of working with Bill on a Habitat for Humanity project. With Bill’s design expertise and the assistance of over 100 (eager) volunteers, we were able to transform the newly purchased Habitat home owned by a young Mexican American family of four.

During that drizzly Saturday in December, we managed to landscape the yard, put up Christmas lights, paint the entire home interior, launder the linens & towels, put up a Christmas tree with all the trimmings, assemble a house full of furniture, install window treatments, and more. Needless to say the family was speechless when they rolled up in their limo from an afternoon spent in luxury at the Four Seasons - all arranged by Bill.

Thanks to Bill, and generous donations from local businesses, this home was transformed from a plain grey box with 3 bedrooms and meager furniture into a home worthy of Architectural Digest.

Moment of Luxury airs on KUHT, Channel 8.
